We focus on restoring pelvic floor function, treating incontinence, pelvic pain, and organ prolapse. Personalized plans help patients regain strength, & mobility. Post Surgical Any type of abdominal or gynecological surgery can be a prelude to pelvic problems. Whether you have had an appendectomy, gall bladder removal, hysterectomy, C-Section, bladder support, post-surgical recovery can greatly benefit from specialized pelvic health physical therapy. These surgeries can create restrictions in the fascial support tissues, as well as adhesions, that can cause bladder dysfunction, pain, and limit healthy digestion years down the road. This type of therapy focuses on restoring and optimizing pelvic floor function, addressing issues such as incontinence, pelvic pain, and pelvic organ prolapse that might result from these surgeries. Through personalized treatment plans, patients can regain strength, mobility, and confidence in their daily activities following surgery. Remember, as well, that sometimes your best investment in a good post-operative recovery, is what we call Pre-Hab. Learning how to perform the techniques and supportive concepts before surgery makes it much easier to apply them afterwards, thereby creating an optimal potential for success. Pelvic health physical therapy plays a crucial role in promoting recovery, improving quality of life, and enhancing overall well-being for individuals undergoing surgical procedures in the abdominal and pelvic region. Class-Action Waiver Any arbitration under these Terms and Conditions will take place on an individual basis; class arbitrations and class/representative/collective actions are not permitted. THE PARTIES AGREE THAT A PARTY MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN EACH'S INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PUTATIVE CLASS, COLLECTIVE, AND/OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING, SUCH AS IN THE FORM OF A PRIVATE ATTORNEY GENERAL ACTION AGAINST THE OTHER. Further, unless both you and Inside Out PT agree otherwise, the arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims, and may not otherwise preside over any form of a representative or class proceeding. In the progression through adolescence and the hormonal and orthopedic changes that occur, various issues involving pelvic health can arise. We work with children and their supporting families to help resolve these concerns. Who We Treat Everyone is welcome, inclusive of race, sexual identity and practice, across the lifespan. GET STARTED Do I need a doctor's referral to see you? No. In North Carolina, we have what’s called “direct access” to physical therapy. That means you do not need a doctor’s note or referral to make an appointment with me. After your initial evaluation, if your concerns are musculoskeletal in nature (that is, they fall within the scope of physical therapy), then we can continue working together towards your goals. If you have medical needs, we’ll make sure to send you in the right direction to get those addressed. Even though a doctor’s referral isn’t needed, I always support you sharing your PT plan and results with your physician and their information with me. Do you think PT can really help me? Absolutely. I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t think it could make a difference and help you get back to the activities and life you want to lead. You deserve to feel better, and pelvic PT has a proven track record of helping people recover, feel better in their body, and achieve their health goals. I see the proof in this every day with current clients. When is the best time to make a PT appointment? Is it too late for me? It’s NEVER too late to get started on your recovery! The best time to make a PT appointment is whenever you are ready — whether that’s today, next week, or in three years. I want you to be ready to participate in the work so that you can find success and meet your goals. Success with seeing a PT isn’t a “should” situation; it needs to be an “I CAN” situation. Are you going to tell me to stop drinking coffee? It depends on what you’ve got going on, and what your goals are! I can’t “make” you do anything, and will not try. Instead, I am a guide, a helper, a health “consultant.” In this role, I provide education and coach you through making the changes that support your goals. We will always work together on your goals in a way that helps you feel comfortable, understood, and supported. Anything you do — including drinking coffee — is ultimately up to you. Just know that what you choose to do (or not do) can impact your progress and recovery journey. Full transparency? For me, I drink 2-3 cups of coffee a day. At your appointment, I’ll share my secret for how I still drink coffee and stay symptom-free. How long will it be until I get better? How long your plan of care lasts depends on three things: where you currently stand, where you want to be, and what resources (time, energy, finances, support at home, education etc) you have to bring to the table. With my approach, symptoms will decrease significantly and often totally disappear in the first phase of PT, which tends to be 6-10 sessions, based on the factors above. One of the most impactful of these is your ability to extend the benefit of each session through your unique-to-you home program I send you with each week. I have had some clients who cannot do anything except make it to their appointment once a week. And YES, they DO get better; it just takes longer. The second phase, which usually takes another 6-10 sessions, involves directly addressing whatever is influencing your problems (such as strength, breath, coordination, etc.). At the end of this phase, you will have a good understanding of your pelvic floor and how to use it, and you’ll notice a significant difference in your strength and connection to your body. The third phase is as long as you want it to be, based on your goals and resources. Some clients prefer to see me on an ongoing basis, with progression towards more and more core strength and functionality as they are able to do so. This is where we can fully integrate your gains into whatever activity you participate in for fitness. Do you take insurance? Inside Out Physical Therapy provides care as an out-of-network provider and uses a pay for service model of care. We will provide superbills as requested and you can submit to your insurance company if you wish. As so many Pelvic Health PT’s are practicing under this model, more insurers are becoming open to this. Not accepting insurance gives us WAY more freedom to customize your treatment plan and make sure you’re actually getting the care you need and deserve. It allows us to spend 100% of your appointment time meeting your individual needs and goals, rather than addressing an insurance company's requirements. This can significantly shorten the length of time it takes to meet your goals, as we can be more efficient in your treatment plan. I understand that recovery requires a resource challenge for many people, and I want to make your goals accessible. Please schedule a free consult so that we can discuss all the options you have. In the meantime, I recommend you call your insurance company and find out what your deductible, copay, and out-of-packet max are. Then call a PT clinic that accepts your insurance, and ask them these questions: How often you might be expected to come in? What their average total visits are for a case like yours? How long it might take to reach your goals? When you see how those numbers aren't much different from going to a cash-based practice, I invite you to book an appointment with me so that you can get started on your path to recovery as soon as possible. What payment methods do you accept? Payment is due at the time of service. I accept payment via cash, credit/debit card, or HSA/FSA card. FAQs More FAQs

Whether you're experiencing pain, low libido, or difficulty with sexual function, our Pelvic Health therapy can help. We cater to all anatomies, ages, orientations, and preferences. Causes of sexual issues can be emotional, mechanical, or hormonal. Our personalized approaches include education on lubricants, birth control, and optimizing sexual wellness. Sexual Health Understanding how your body can experience sexual play and pleasure, why it might be experiencing pain instead, and addressing the challenge in sharing a sexual connection with a partner are some of the main issues we address in Pelvic Health. Regardless of your anatomy, age, orientation or preferences, sexual activity and pleasure should be easy and rewarding, in whatever way you might like to experience it. For women, problems can be present as superficial or deep pain with vaginal or anal insertion of a penis, a sexual wellness toy, or a speculum; low libido and limited clitoral sensation; vaginismus; vulvodynia; difficulty with orgasm; and pain or urination with orgasm. The causes of these problems can be emotional, stress/anxiety related, mechanical injury, an overall skeletal alignment issue, a hormonal shift, medication side effects, a traumatic history, and so often simply just a lack of knowledge about wellness in this area. For men, problems can present as difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection, difficulty reaching orgasm, limited sensation and libido, pain with an erection or ejaculation, urination with orgasm, and pain as the insertional and/or receptive partner. The causes of these can be emotional, stress/anxiety related, mechanical injury, skeletal alignment, hormonal shifts, medication side effects, a traumatic history, and so often simply a lack of knowledge about wellness in this area. Addressing your unique concerns with sensitivity, understanding and support is paramount at IOPT, and we appreciate the trust you share when you integrate our practice into your goals. Specific approaches we apply in this area are education about lubricants, birth control, positional impact on sensation and orgasm, as well as addressing any other questions you might have. - SPORTS, FITNESS + PLAY | Inside Out PT
At Inside Out Physical Therapy in Wilmington, we help you maintain and build muscle fitness, crucial for healthy aging. Whether you're returning to exercise after a break, recovering from injury, or managing postpartum or post-surgical concerns, we offer personalized guidance to support your fitness journey. Our expert therapists address pelvic health and provide strategies to overcome fears of exercise, helping you enjoy activities like running or playing with your kids without worry. Sports, Fitness + Play Maintaining or building muscle and physical fitness is being found to be the single most important effort we can make towards living a healthy life as we age, and everyone comes to us from a different place. Many of you were active as children and got derailed with academia, career and children. Many of you were competitive athletes throughout college, and were repeatedly told not to listen to the messages your body was telling you. Many of you have tried a sport or fitness program that resulted in injury because there wasn’t appropriate guidance with your starting point and progress, and you had to let it go. Postpartum women often come to us without pelvic symptoms, but with a lot of fear around how to protect their pelvic floor from injury and prolapse during exercise and play with their children. Are you afraid to jump on a trampoline? Run in the yard with your kids? Don’t let the impacts of birthing your children keep you from playing with them. We can show you how to control and support your pelvic floor and bladder in whatever activity you choose, so you can participate in joy rather than fear. The research is showing that an incredible number of postpartum women and post surgical men stop exercising due to fear of leaking. There are multiple factors to address, in addition to the muscular function of the pelvic floor, and at IOPT, we will guide you through them all. Avoiding exercise has a cumulative and life altering impact, and you can change that. At IOPT, we will meet you where you are, and safely guide you wherever you want to go in your fitness journey. We specialize in getting you started, so you feel safe to progress on your own. - PELVIC HEALTH | Inside Out PT
At Inside Out Physical Therapy in Wilmington, we address a wide range of pelvic health issues across all life stages. Our approach includes all aspects of pelvic and abdominal health for both men and women. We treat conditions like back pain, pelvic floor issues, digestive problems, and more, using a comprehensive approach to address muscles, nerves, and other systems. Our holistic method ensures effective, personalized care for your unique pelvic health challenges. Pelvic Health This field began as Women’s Health, based around women in childbearing and geriatric seasons of life, and the problems that showed up with the bladder. Once it became evident that men, in fact, had some of the same problems with their pelvic organs and musculature, it transitioned to Pelvic Health. And, maybe finally, we can call it Abdominopelvic Health. When you can see all of the areas of impact with the pelvic floor and abdominal organs, it becomes clear that this is a very complex field. Not only do we now address all of these areas of challenge, but we see clients in all phases of life and physical capacity. Are you having back, or SI pain? Pelvic floor pressure, pain, or prolapse? Digestive difficulties? Lack of pleasure or difficulty with orgasm? Fertility challenges? Urinary leakage or stream struggles? Issues in pregnancy? Concerns around birth? Pelvic health involves different parts of the pelvic floor, impacting and causing issues that are interconnected throughout the systems. A thorough understanding of the muscles, nerves, bones, and blood vessels is essential for effective treatment. A comprehensive and multi-faceted approach that addresses all of the systems is vital to manage your specific pelvic health challenges. At IOPT, this is the practice platform we use to help you change your life. - PRENATAL | Inside Out PT
At Inside Out Physical Therapy in Wilmington, our prenatal services support a healthy pregnancy and postpartum recovery. While many women experience no issues, some may face pain, incontinence, or other challenges. Our specialized prenatal physical therapy addresses physiological wellness, alignment, and postural changes to ease discomfort and prepare your body for labor. Integrating Pelvic Health PT can enhance overall well-being, reduce complications, and aid recovery. Prenatal It’s not “just because you’re pregnant!” Fifty percent of women in pregnancy experience no physical problems. Many times problems will present in a second pregnancy when there was little support, education or therapy postpartum with the first. So those who do experience pain, incontinence, challenges with intercourse, prolapse, bladder and bowel issues, shouldn’t be told these symptoms are due to their pregnancy. Instead, let’s recognize and acknowledge that these symptoms are occurring because of how the body is experiencing the pregnancy. Prenatal care and pelvic health physical therapy are vital components of ensuring a healthy pregnancy and postpartum recovery. IOPT’s specialized prenatal physical therapy services focus on physiological and tissue wellness, nervous system support, adaptations to the alignment and postural changes that can influence breath, sleep, and digestion. A healthy pelvic floor and good alignment are key to addressing any musculoskeletal pain or discomfort, and preparing the body for labor and delivery. By integrating Pelvic Health PT during pregnancy, research shows that individuals can enhance their overall well-being, reduce the risk of certain complications, and promote a smoother transition through and recovery after childbirth. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, consider incorporating prenatal care and pelvic health physical therapy with Caroline into your wellness routine to support a healthier pregnancy journey.
